"Do you know when you'll be speaking to the Haim sisters?" an inquiry arrives. "I was hoping to ask if I can become their extra sister."

However, there remains one problem: The sender also wants to be Haim's fourth member. And we're not alone. A host of celebrated supporters have publicly coveted the role.

It's clear an irresistible appeal is at play. The siblings Este, Danielle and Alana began their career playing gigs at neighborhood delis with their parents. Presently, they stand as multiple Grammy Award nominees.

Similar to the most iconic ensembles, they're a inseparable unit. Their music videos often depict them marching in unison down the roads of Los Angeles. During performances, they perform with such boundless joy you can't help but think, "I want to be involved in that, too."

"The amount of times on tour that fans came up to us and said, 'After your show, I got a guitar'," states Alana, the most junior of the Haim siblings. "It is the ultimate honour. That's an award in itself. Our mission is accomplished if we can encourage others to form a group."

"And thus all is invited to be the next Haim sister."

Award Milestone

The trio have called into home, where they're resting up after an major tour in for their new album, I Quit.

They're right now reeling from the news it's been in the running for a top rock honor at the Grammy Awards – with Haim the very first female band ever in contention for the award.

"I watch the announcements every year, so it kind of feels like an out-of-body experience when your name is called," notes Alana. "I had to call my sisters to say, 'Did I hear this right or am I hallucinating'?"

The weight of the accolade isn't lost on the trio.

"We really set out to make a rock album this time, so it's a significant achievement," says Alana. "Yet we're just appreciative for the pioneers that inspired us."

Heartbreak and Laughter

The project was born from a time of emotional upheaval. All three sisters ended up single, and the music explores that strange transitional period where you're happy to be free, but not entirely ready to move on.

The words follow endings and farewells. The sisters seek love, but not the specific love they've got. You can hear them working out in the moment who they want to be.

"I adore way of putting it, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is essentially a mantra. You have to make an effort in shutting out the noise and saying, 'I couldn't care less what people think'."

Refinement of Music

That recent resilience required a different sonic direction – more raw and immediate than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who co-produced the album, that was founded on the drum sound.

"Drums are such a specific thing, and I care so much about it," she states.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the title of our book," quips Alana. "I always say, our albums don't start until we find the ideal drum sound."

Stories and Collective Camaraderie

The trio's honesty inspired the album's marketing, where the sisters revealed some of their dating misadventures.

A former partner left Este over a health concern. Alana recalled a story of flying to spend New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a high five at midnight.

"During these breakups, you just feel like there's no hope," says Alana. "Thus to be able to laugh at those stories and hear others tell you wilder stories, it's incredible."

A Secure Future

One can easily sense a shift in the band. These days, Haim are more assured of their position in the music world.

They're major draws, with successful albums and an global audience.

However the sister act will always be their primary priority.

"My sisters and I have been making music since I was four," concludes Alana. "It's like nothing else that we were destined for. And I'm really grateful we've made it and we're still going strong."
