Ten individuals found guilty of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the pair's significant age difference.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has not yet been published.
A persistent conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a libel case in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
