Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
